Mission Statement. To provide all levels of Rugby with quality, educated match officials and to provide the means for each active official to reach his or her potential through the provision of encouragement, opportunity and support. To provide the Community at large the opportunity to learn about the game of Rugby and provide an environment through which participation is encouraged. Ultimately to grow the game and increase the level of participation. Our Association. The Gold Coast District Rugby Referees Association Inc. was formed in 1978 and incorporated in 2005. Its primary role is to support Rugby competitions for senior and junior clubs as well as schools based in the Gold Coast area of Queensland. Since being formed it has responded to the many changes in Rugby in Australia and Queensland which have provided many challenges for a State based Provincial Referee Society. We are very much a Community Rugby group supporting Community Rugby through the recruitment, retention, education and appointment to the Gold Coast junior, senior and schools competitions. The Association has a history of achievement, which continues to this day. Three members have received appointments to international tour team matches, one to Australian Rugby Shield finals, whilst many others have made contributions through their appointments to Queensland Country representative matches and other internal Queensland Provincial matches. Participation levels in Rugby on the Gold Coast have increased in recent years with over 150 teams competing in matches each week. The Gold Coast is seen as an ideal area to tour and each year hosts a junior carnival of club and schools teams from all over the World. Any member with the potential to reach a higher level is encouraged to achieve that potential and there are opportunities to gain experience in the Brisbane Competition as the Association has close links with the Queensland Rugby Referees Association (Bribane). Those of our membership who have experienced this exposure have been highly motivated by the experience. The Association supports junior match official development and has a highly successful education and development program through which school aged match officals are trained. A number of these junior match officials have been awarded Australian Rugby Schoolboy Scholarships. The Gold Coast is the fastest growing metropolitan area in Australia. The association views this as an opportunity to grow Rugby and herein lies an ongoing challenge to the Association to expand its base of match officials. All of our work is supported by an active Strategic Plan. This focuses on the needs of the match official, recruitment processes, retention policies, education and funding as well as providing a resource facility for all match officials in all competitions in the District. Should you require any further information about Rugby which remains unanswered through what we have on our site there are links to reference sites throughout which should assist your search.
